Are you another Jewish animal welfare and vegan organization?
We are a building a new spiritual community. We fully recognize and honor animals as beautiful and spiritual beings, but we are not an animal welfare organization, which tend to focus on particular issues and campaigns – such as kashrut slaughter and killing chickens for kapparot. We may also have differences with some animal welfare projects, as we do not look for ‘humane’ methods of killing animals, utilizing their body parts, or exploiting their labor. However, we celebrate the increased attention that animals are receiving in Judaism, other religions, and in societies at large.
How much are membership dues?
Religious practice and informal learning ought to be accessible to all. Therefore, we don’t and will not require dues. We subsist on the generous donations of those who support the development of our community.
What about my dog? Can I bring him/her along?
All animals are members of our congregation. Initially, however, we ask that people do not bring their animal companions to in-person gatherings since some people may be fearful or allergic. Service animals, however, are always welcome.
What about traditional foods?
We explore plant-based foods that may be overlooked, as well as vegan modifications to traditional foods with animal products.
Does one have to believe in G-d to join the community?
People’s beliefs in, and relationships with, G-d are deeply personal. We welcome all to participate in our community, regardless of their beliefs. From a literary perspective, since G-d is a character in scripture, we explore how G-d is represented, which also provides an opportunity to discuss personal beliefs.
I am not Jewish, can I still participate?
This is a community for all who seek to explore and uphold our core tenants. We invite your participation! People from other faith traditions add interesting perspectives to our discussions.
